Country Cottage & Home Decorating

To Decorate Country style use area rugs rather than wall-to-wall carpeting.  Leave a nicely polished strip of wood floor to frame your area rugs.  Choose rugs that pick up one or more colors from around the room.  Braided, rag and hooked rugs are country style.

Easy Door Curtains.  You need two thin round curtain rods.  Printed Fabric. Attack curtain rods to door, place one at top and bottom of opening.  Measure length of curtains from top of the top rod to the lower edge of bottom rod, then add 4" to this measurement.  Curtains look best with the fabric double the width of the opening.  Cut one length of fabric for curtain.  For tie, cut a piece of fabric 4" wide across width of fabric.  With right sides together, fold tied lengthwise and sew 1/4 " seam.  Turn to right side and press.  For curtains make a 1" wide lengthwise hem at both edges and press.  Fold 2" to wrong side at top edge and 2" at lower edge.  Sew across width of curtain 1 - 1/2 " below fold.  Hang curtains on rids, adjust tie.

Dress up your kitchen with plaid chair cushions and table runner.  Hang copper pots and wicker baskets on walls.
Make your own kitchen wreath.  Wrap wreath with calico print ribbon and glue in place.  Use remainder of ribbon to form large looped bow at bottom of wreath.  Arrange assorted kitchen utensils just above bow and glue in place.

Calico Cottage Framed Art
Use Fabric in assorted calicos or gingham
Using a Photo in a magazine, a picture of your house or any favorite design.  Trace all shapes then cut shapes out of assorted fabric.  Using glue attach all shapes to a heavy piece of cardboard.  trim with lace and rickrack.  Frame!

Hang  collection of tools, utensils or antique labels.
Use weathered wood for framing " new" collectibles.  Disguise modern lighting, heating vents and air conditioners with wooden drying racks hung with herbs or old embroidered pieces.  use ceiling racks to hang dried flowers, wicker ware or wire baskets.

Use Bamboo fans and bamboo trays to make an inexpensive wall accent.  Clue on assorted dried flowers and grasses finish with a large bow.
